Drouin South Airfield ICAO Ref YDRN
Prior permission to operate is required, and all pilots requesting permission will be directed to review this document. Refer to ERSA
A Fly Neighbourly Procedure is a requirement of Planning Permit PLA0075/21, put in place to mitigate the effects of noise on areas in the vicinity of airfields.
The policy is consistent with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations
At all times the safe operation of aircraft remains the over-riding consideration.
All pilots operating at the Drouin South Airfield must be committed to safe, responsible aviation and operate in a manner that is respectful and considerate of local residents, including but not limited to those at the following, specifically noise sensitive addresses:
- 99 McClure Road, Drouin South (farmhouse and horse stud buildings)
- 95 Brewer Road, Drouin South (farmhouse and dairy buildings)
- 70 Burnt Store Road, Lardner (farmhouse and beef cattle operation)
- 925 Main South Road, Drouin South (farmhouse and machinery buildings)

The requirement is to avoid flying low or directly overhead residences, farmland and agricultural operations, including but not limited to those addresses listed above. Circuit directions and altitudes remain standard as per regulations governing operations at non-controlled aerodromes, ie left circuits at 1000ft AGL (1300ft AMSL) for medium performance aircraft; 500ft AGL (800ft AMSL) for low performance aircraft-max 55kts. (AC 91.10 v1.1, Nov 2021).
Upon take-off, best rate of climb should be maintained until reaching cruise altitude so as to have the least impact on other surrounding properties.
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flights are encouraged to follow high-ambient noise routes, such as highways and railway lines and avoid flying over residences and residential areas.
Avoid low flying where possible especially over farmland and noise-sensitive land uses including dwellings and intensive agricultural operations;
Avoid aerobatics above farmland and noise-sensitive land uses including dwellings and intensive agricultural operations.
Avoid prolonged engine run-ups or high engine power other than required by the engine manufacturer for safe operation.
Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights, according to flight plan.
Except in an emergency, aircraft above 2500lbs (1,140 kilograms) are not permitted to operate at Drouin South Airfield.
No training, air transport or airwork can be conducted from the airfield.
